Further, the manufacturer claims that overall Gorilla Glass 6 is overall “up to two times better” than Gorilla Glass 5 in terms of drop and scratch resistance. “Corning Gorilla Glass 6 improves upon Gorilla Glass 5 by surviving drops from higher heights, but more importantly, has been engineered to survive multiple drops,” said Corning Gorilla Glass vice president and general manager JohnBayne in a recent statement. 

The glass manufacturer goes on to say that its new glass technology features “chemically strengthened” glass technology that results in “significantly higher levels of compression” when compared to Gorilla Glass 5. 

Corning also explains that there’s typically a compromise between drop resistance and scratch resistance, but states that with Gorilla Glass 6, these concessions are no longer necessary regardless of how thin a smartphone or tablet is. The company also claims that near bezel-less, edge-to-edge smartphone screens have actually resulted in stronger displays, contrary to what some might assume, stating that in the past bezels often crack first resulting in the phone’s glass weakening.

What is Reliance Jio Giga Fiber: Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani announced the launch of fixed-line broadband service Jio Giga Fiber in India during 41st Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries. India lags behind in the Fixed-line broadband service and it is ranked low at 134th in the global ranking for fixed broadband. In countries with a better communication system, 80% of data is used through fixed-line broadband service, Ambani pointed out.

Mukesh Ambani while addressing the shareholders at the meeting announced the launch of fixed-line broadband services Jio Giga Fiber and said,

“We will extend fiber connectivity to homes, merchants, small and medium enterprises and large enterprises simultaneously across 1000+ cities to offer most advanced fiber-based broadband.”

Jio fiber will provide users Ultra High-definition entertainment on TV, Multi-party video conferencing, Voice-activated virtual assistant, Virtual reality gaming and shopping and smart home solutions, said Ambani.

“Fixed-line broadband means when you combine fix line connectivity and cloud applications with the agility and customer obsession of a small owner-driven business you empower them to compete them on level terms with larger business,” added Ambani.

Currently, it is running beta trials for JioGigaFiber in 10,000 homes and the registrations for the plan will start from August 15.

In the Annual meeting, he also said that Reliance is India’s largest payer of GST, excise and customs duty, and Income Tax in the private sector.

Last year, Jio had announced the JioPhone, the company’s first feature phone that was targeted towards dominating the feature segment in India. While the company did manage to sell 25 million units of that handset, the telco has now announced JioPhone 2 at the 41st AGM conference of Reliance in Mumbai.

The announcement was made by Isha Ambani, daughter of Jio Chairman, Mukesh Ambani. It was also revealed that the JioPhone will also get support for Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube apps which was currently not present on the phone.

Speaking about the JioPhone 2, it is a QWERTY keypad dual-SIM handset that is priced at Rs 2,999 (around $44). It runs on KaiOS like the previous version and comes with 4G LTE, VoLTE, and VoWi-Fi. It also has support for LTE Cat.4 with promised download speeds of up to 150Mbps. The JioPhone 2 already comes ready to use for WhatsApp and YouTube which can be downloaded from its app store.

The JioPhone 2 has a 2.4-inch QVGA display and has a 4-way navigation key. It also has the voice command button that was found on the JioPhone. The handset has 512MB of RAM and 4Gb of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB) while the processor was not mentioned at the launch event.
